“The Cherub” Denis Bordier, Genève. Made for the Russian market circa 1640. Very fine and exceptionally rare, silver, oval, pre-balance spring pendant watch. Oval, two-body, “fermée” type, fully chased with flowers and foliage, the cover decorated with a cherub leaning on a shield, back centered with a small landscape. Chased lower finial and loose ring pendant. Gilt brass chapter ring engraved with radial Roman numerals and half-hour divisions, applied on the hinged silver plate located by four lugs and entirely engraved with scrolling foliage. Gilt brass single “tulip” hand. 38 x 44 mm, oval, hinged, gilt brass, fusee with gut, the back plate engraved with flowers and foliage, elaborate pierced and engraved gilt brass pillars, short three-wheel train, verge escapement, plain steel two-arm foliot without spring, irregular gilt brass pierced and florally engraved balance cock secured by a pin, ratchet wheel set up with matching decoration.
