“Flowers and Foliage” Rousseau, A Gien (France). Made circa 1630. Very fine and rare, pre balance-spring, singlehand pendant watch with alarm. Two-body, "fermée type" with curved-in edge, band pierced and engraved with flowers and foliage, polished back and front cover. Gilt metal with radial Roman numerals and half-hour divisions, revolving alarm disc in the center with an engraved petal rosette and steel "fleur-de-lis" hour pointer. Steel alarmsetting hand. 39 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full plate, baluster pillars, fusee and gut, verge escapement, circular steel foliot, small cock (later), ratchet wheel mainspring set-up with finely pierced and engraved click, alarm mechanism driven from fixed barrel pierced and engraved with floral motifs, steel train and double-ended hammer.
