“Au Maréchal Ney” Breguet, No. 2121, sold to Maréchal Ney on February 10, 1813, for 3000 Francs. Extremely rare, fine and important, 18K gold, half quarter-repeating pocket watch constructed on the principals of the “Garde-Temps”, with a short double-link gold chain and swivel seal engraved with the arms of Maréchal Ney. Four-body, “forme quatre baguettes”, by Tavernier, No. 3076, polished, the band engine-turned “à grains d’orge”, the inside back cover engraved “Maréchal Ney, 10 Février 1813”. Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel by Borel, No. 574, Breguet numerals, outer minute track, secret signature below 12, secured by a screw. 43 mm., 17’’’, frosted gilt, bar caliber, standing barrel, counterpoised straight line lever escapement with draw and long lever, jeweled train, bimetallic compensation balance with inset gold adjusting screws, pare-chutes on both pivots, blued steel Breguet balance spring, repeating on a single gong with one hammer activated by a pull-twist piston in the pendant. Dial and cuvette signed, case with Tavernier’s mastermark, movement punch numbered. Diam. 50 mm. Notes The repair books indicate that this watch was completely restored on 13th January 1852, at the request of Monsieur le Duc d’Elchingen, Brigade General at Mans in la Sarthe. At the same time the first dial, bearing Turkish numerals, was replaced with the present dial, and the inscription engraved on the interior of the back.
