Robert & Courvoisier Thin Quarter-Repeater Robert & Courvoisier, La Chaux de Fonds, No. 24870. Made circa 1815. Very fine and rare, thin, large, quarter-repeating, 18K rose gold pocket watch with visible movement. Two-body, "Directoire", polished, concave bezel, concealed hinge. Spring-loaded gilt-metal cuvette. Annular white enamel, Breguet numerals, outer minute divisions, the center with aperture exposing the movement. Blued steel skeletonized hands. Notes Robert & Courvoisier The company was founded in 1770 by J. Robert of La Chaux-de- Fonds, who in 1781 went into partnership with his son-in-law Louis Courvoisier. The company was first called J. Robert Son & Co., in 1805 Robert, Courvoisier, & Co., and in 1816, Courvoisier & Co. Along with the Jaquet-Droz firm, they were the most important makers of musical clocks.
