Religieuse Clock Simon à Genève. Made circa 1700. Very fine and rare, 8-day going, ebonized, quarter-repeating, early pendulum table clock with alarm. To be sold without reserve Rectangular, glazed front door and sides, molded base and cornice, bun feet, detachable top enclosing the bell with gilt brass pierced sound frets, supported on molded base with two finials, hinged wooden door at the back. Brass chapter ring applied to a wooden mask, with champlevé radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, with outermost five-minute Arabic numerals, center with revolving alarm setting dial with radial Arabic numerals, winding apertures at 9 for alarm, at 6 for going train, below finely chased applied gilt brass decoration of two trumpeter figures and foliate decoration, the center engraved with a Cardinal’s crest. Blued steel beetle and poker hands. Rectangular, brass, large baluster pillars, large going barrel, verge escapement, steel rod/brass small bob pendulum, silk suspension, repeating on two bells with two hammers activated by pulling the cord, alarm train with separate plates and sounding with a double-ended hammer on the quarter bell. Dial signed. Dim. 46 x 24 x 12.5 cm. Notes Geneva clocks are rare in general, early ones such as this one are extremely rare. The maker of this clock was probably Abraham Simon.
