Rococo Boudoir Clock Mangeant a Paris. The case stamped with the C couronné poinçon in use between 1745 and 1749. Very fine and rare, Louis XV, rococo gilt bronze boudoir clock with pull quarter repeat. Cast and finely chased gilt bronze in the rococo style, asymmetric waisted form with rocaille feet, wave cresting, ram’s head shoulders, lion’s mask below the dial, pierced sound frets. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and outermost large Arabic five-minute numerals. Pierced and engraved gilt brass hands. 90 mm., circular brass plates, four baluster pillars, verge escapement, silk suspension, brass bob pendulum, repeating on two bells with two hammers, repeating work on the backplate, pull cord for the repeat in the top of the case. Dial, and movement signed, case punched with the C couronné poinçon. Dim. 30 x 18 x 11 cm. Notes Louis Mangeant became Master watchmaker in 1734, he worked in the rue du Pourtour Saint Gervais until 1778. The 'Crowned C Punchmark (Poinçon C Couronné) was a tax mark struck on any alloy incorporating copper, produced or offered for re-sale between March 1745 and February 1749.
