Three-Hammer Minute Repeater Swiss, movement No. 33849, case No. 33847. Made circa 1860. Fine and rare, minute-repeating with early use of three hammers, 18K yellow gold pocket watch. To be sold without reserve Four-body, "bassine et filet", engine-turned case back, reeded band. Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and outermost Arabic five-minute numerals. Blued steel spade hands. 45 mm, 20’’’, frosted gilt, 8 jewels, standing barrel, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator, repeating via three hammers on two gongs activated by depressing the pendant. Diam. 53 mm. Notes Minute repeating watches with more than two hammers are very rare before about 1900. The present watch is not a carillion like the later three-hammer watches but uses a hammer to strike the hours, then the hour hammer and a quarter hammer strike the quarters, and finally another hammer strikes the minutes only.
