Adjusted Extra & Guillaume Balance – Special Regulator Patek, Philippe & Cie. , Genève, movement and case No. 100019. Made for Tiffany & Co., New York in 1893, sold on May 9, 1896. Very fine and rare, 18K yellow gold, keyless "Adjusted EXTRA" lever chronometer pocket watch with Guillaume balance, Geneva Observatory Rating Certificate Grade “A” obtained on February 20, 1896. Accompanied by the Extract from the Archives. Four-body, "bassine", polished, concealed hinge. Hinged gold cuvette engraved “Harrison L. Beatty from Uncle Joseph Bush, Dec. 4th, 1896”. White enamel with Breguet numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds dial. Blued steel spade hands. Notes The present watch is one of very few known, and the earliest of the Patek Philippe watches with a “double” regulator to so far appear at auction. Two others are known, No. 109226 and No. 109232, both made in 1898. The two regulator arms do not work independently but are fixed in position, the regulation is adjusted using the familiar “swan-neck” regulator, the other arm showing the degree of regulation. When destined for Observatory Timing Contests, the movements of Patek Philippe watches, like those of other makers, were doubleengraved with serial numbers. The inscription "Extra" on the bridge of the movement refers to the high finishing of all the parts of the movement.
