Cloisonne Dial - India Universal Genève, case No. 1408689, Ref. 111247. Made in 1949. Fine and very rare, 18K pink gold wristwatch with cloisonné enamel dial featuring the Indian subcontinent. Three-body, solid, polished, inclined bezel, straight curved lugs. Bombe, polychrome cloisonné enamel on gold with counter enamel, representing India after its 1947 Independence from British rule, without Bangladesh and Kashmir, the Indian subcontinent with a central three-tier pagoda and showing in gold wires the Ganges, Indus and Godavari rivers (from north to south), flanked by a junk and a seated divinity, applied pink gold triangular indexes and Arabic quarter-hour numerals. Pink gold dauphine hands. Cal. 128, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance, self-compensating flat balance spring, shock absorber, index regulator. Case and movement signed. Diam. 35 mm. Thickness 10 mm. Notes Despite the lack of marks or signature of the enamel artist on the reverse of the dial, the work is remarkable in quality and is typical of the Geneva production and technique of this period.
