Berks County, Pennsylvania painted poplar dower chest, dated 1802 , the lift lid with 2 arched panels with column sides enclosing potted flowers over a case with 2 similar panels with tulips flanking the inscription "Jhon Miller 1802", supported by straight bracket feet, 24" h. , 47 3/4" w. For a similarly decorated chest, possibly by the same artist, see The Pennsylvania-German Decorated Chest by Fabian, fig. 156. Provenance: Descended in the Miller family to the present owner.
