Vacheron & Constantin for Boucheron – “Pan & The Maenads” Platinum & Gold Zodiac Dress Watch Vacheron & Constantin, Geneve, No. 331705, retailed by Boucheron, Paris. Made circa 1904. Very fine and rare, very heavy, platinum and gold, keyless dress watch. Three-body, bassine pincee, solid platinum, the bezel applied with gold signs of the zodiac, the back applied with six gold relief figures of the Maenads and Pan playing the pipe, central lyre. Frosted platinum with applied gold radial Roman numerals, applied gold outer dot minute divisions. Gold spade hands. 16 ½’’’, matte gilt, 17 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, straightline lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with gold temperature and meantime adjustment screws, blued steel Breguet balance spring with overcoil, patent screw micrometer regulator. Movement signed Vacheron & Constantin, interior of case signed Boucheron, Paris. Diam. 50 mm. Weight of case excluding the movement 92 grams. Notes This very fine dress watch has a very heavy platinum case (3.24 ounces) with applied relief gold figures in the ancient Greek style. This is one of two known designs in the series, another very similar watch with a different scene of Pan on the back is illustrated in “The World of Vacheron & Constantin”, Lambelet & Coen, 1992, p. 306.
