CARTIER LAMP DESK CLOCK Cartier, No. 1611, movement No. 148807. Made in the 1930s. A very fine, exceptionally rare and possibly unique, silver, brass, gold, marble and jadeite desk lamp with 8-day going four-sided clock. Four-sided brass case atop a spherical jadeite carving and decagon base, the bezels, base and top of the lamp gold. Stepped lamp-post, marble lampshade bordered in gold, and jade pendant with two Asian people. All mother-of-pearl, with Roman numerals. Gold luminous Art Deco hands. 58 mm, gilt, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensated balance. Dial and case signed, movement numbered. Dim. 4.5 x 9.5 inches. Notes According to our research this example is one of only three known Cartier lamp clocks to have appeared for public auction. Possibly created as a special order, each clock, although similar in design, displays minor variations in the decoration making each one unique. This piece combines multiple elements of the Art Deco period, such as the strict lines and Asian motifs, along with the use of gold along the borders, mother-of-pearl dials and the jade decorations, creating a superb example of Cartier's craftsmanship from the early part of the the 20th century.
