Terrot - Juno’s Chariot Ph. Terrot (Genève), No. 8914. Made circa 1780. Very fine and rare, quarter-repeating, 18K gold, painted on enamel and rose-cut diamond-set pocket watch. Two-body, Directoire, with rose-cut diamond-set bezel, the back decorated with a fine painted on enamel scene depicting Juno, the chief goddess of Olympus, being drawn in her chariot by two peacocks, translucent royal blue guilloche enamel background, lozenge-shaped rose-cut diamond-set frame, outer four color translucent and opalescent guilloche enamel border with gold paillon detail. White enamel with upright Roman numerals, outer minute divisions. Gold beetle and poker hands. Hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece, silver regulation dial, repeating on a bell in the back of the case activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 50.5 mm. Notes The enamel decoration of the case of this watch is unusual in the use of four colors of guilloche enamel including opalescent colors in a single panel. This would have required great skill to achieve.
