Souriau - Cleopatra With The Asp Souriau, 20 rue Feydeau à Paris, No. 872. Made circa 1830, the enamel attributable to the freres Huaud, circa 1690. Fine, 18K varicolored gold, hunting-cased, garnet-set pendant watch with jumping hours and earlier seventeenth century painted on enamel plaque. Double body, fully chased with a floral and foliate garnet set decoration over an amati ground, the back set with a fine painted seventeenth century enamel scene depicting Cleopatra with the asp. Silver engine-turned with digital hour aperture, small eccentric minute ring and offset subsidiary seconds. Blued steel Breguet minute hand. 33 mm., hinged full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, cylinder escapement, plain brass three arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock and polished steel end-piece. Movement signed. Diam. 42 mm. Notes The present watch shows an interesting re-use of a fine 17th century Geneva enamel.
