Two Day Marine Chronometer Attributed to Ulysse Nardin, Swiss, No. 14. Made for the Chinese market in the 1920's. Fine, mahogany two-day marine chronometer with Guillaume's integral balance. Three-body, with brass handles, glazed middle section, brass bowl and gimballed suspension. Matte silvered with Arabic numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds and power reserve indication. Blued steel spade hands. Gilt brass three-quarter plate with waisted cylindrical pillars secured by polished steel screws, fourth wheel and escapement jeweled, fusee with chain and maintaining power, Earnshaw spring detent escapement with jeweled locking stone, two-arm Guillaume “integral” nickel-steel and brass balance with four cylindrical weights and two mean time adjusting nuts, free-sprung palladium alloy helical balance spring with terminal curves. Dial signed in Chinese characters. Dim. 18.5 x 18.5 x 18 cm. Notes The movement of this chronometer can be confidently attributed to Ulysse Nardin. A chronometer with identical movement signed Ulysse Nardin is illustrated and described in "The Time Museum Catalogue of Chronometers", Anthony G. Randall, 1992, p. 264. Chronometers signed with Chinese characters are rare.
