Silver Singing Bird Box Attributed to Griesbaum, Germany. Made circa 1950 in the style of the late 19th Century. Fine, repoussé sterling silver singing bird box. Rectangular with repoussé relief decoration of cherubs playing amongst vines, the top similarly decorated, the hinged bird cover cast with two resting cherubs with butterflies, scroll feet. Singing bird movement: going barrel, rectangular belows, Griesbaum whistle, the bird rotating and moving wings, tail and beak, controlled by a rack and two cams mounted beneath the barrel, gilt brass grille engraved with foliage, activated by a bird-form slide in the side of the case. Dim. 104 x 66 x 62 mm.
