SILVER SINGING BIRD BOX Attributed to Griesbaum, Germany. Made circa 1950 in the style of the late 19th century. Fine, repoussé sterling silver singing bird box. Rectangular with repoussé relief decoration of cherubs playing amongst trees and fl ower garlands, the top similarly decorated with trees and birds, the hinged bird cover cast with a cherub conducting flanked by birds, leaf scroll feet. Singing bird movement: going barrel, rectangular belows, Griesbaum whistle, the bird rotating and moving wings, tail and beak, controlled by a rack and two cams mounted beneath the barrel, silver grille engraved with foliage, activated by a bird-form slide in the side of the case.
