SILVER PATENT WATCH BAROMETER Swiss, “Watch Barometer Patent”, No. 1454, case No. 886916. Made circa 1900. Fine, rare and unusual silver keyless pocket watch with combined barometer. Three-body, " bassine et fi lets ", polished, engine-turned back with vacant cartouche. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer silvered engraved barometer ring. Gold spade hands. Notes Lot 370 William Williams of Bury took out a patent on March 26, 1890 in England for an escapement that “beats ten, twelve, or sixteen times a second”. He added one wheel to the standard train, placed the escape wheel where the seconds hand is located and employed an extremely fast balance, beating 57,600 times per hour.
