CARRIAGE CLOCK WITH CALENDAR & MOON PHASES Attributed to Jacot, French. Made circa 1880. Extremely fine and rare, large, gilt brass, 8-day going, hour and half-hour striking and repeating carriage clock with alarm, day-date calendar, moon phases and moon’s age. Multi-piece, "pillars", gilt-brass, each of the four corners with a fl uted column, the sides and top glazed, stepped base, hinged handle. White enamel with radial black Roman numerals, outer minute divisions and Arabic fi ve-minute numerals, the lower half decorated with painted clouds and sky, date and days of the week dials below, aperture for the moon phases with moon’s age on the edge. Black Breguet hands. Rectangular brass plates, going barrels for the going and striking trains, further barrel for the alarm train, straightline lever escapement on a silvered platform, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, striking and repeating on a coiled gong, white enamel alarm setting disc on the backplate. Dim. 14.7 x 10.7 x 9.5 cm. Excluding handle. Notes Carriage clocks with moon phases are rare. The style of the case used in the present clock is one often used by the maker Jacot.
