GIDE, QUARTER REPEATING WATCH, RINALDO & ARMIDA David Gide, a Genève. Made circa 1800. Very fine and rare, 18K gold, painted on enamel and pearl-set quarter-repeating pocket watch. Two-body, “Empire”, engraved band, pearl-set bezel, the back set with a fi nely painted on enamel scene of Rinaldo and Armida within an oval gold paillon border, outer translucent blue guilloche enamel border surrounded by pearls. White enamel, Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions, winding aperture at 2. Gold hands with pierced tips. 37 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full-plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass balance with fl at balance spring, continental cock, silver regulation dial, repeating on a bell in the back of the case activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 48 mm. Notes The present watch has survived in very good condition, the enamel back is original and unrestored.
