Very fine and extremely rare, hour and half-hour striking and repeating, 8-day going, gilt-brass carriage clock with alarm and inset hand-painted portrait miniatures of Marie Leszczynska, Queen Consort of Louis XV after the artist Carl van Loo and Marie- Antoinette, Queen consort of Louis XVI. Multi-piece, gilt-brass, hobnail decorated edges, fl uted pillars, the foliate engraved gilt-brass side panels set with fi ne glazed hand-painted portraits of Marie Leszczynska and Marie-Antoinette, signed “CP”, glazed panel at the top to view the escapement, hinged reeded handle, hinged glazed back door. White enamel with Arabic numerals, outer dot minute track with Arabic 5-minute numerals, the center with painted on enamel polychrome fl ower swags, similarly decorated alarm setting-dial below with Arabic numerals, foliate engraved gilt-brass mask. Gilt-brass fl eur-de-lis hands. Rectangular brass plates, going barrels for the going and striking trains, lateral lever escapement on a silvered platform, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel fl at balance spring, index regulator, striking and repeating on a gong, separate alarm train.
