ROLEX REF. 6284 TWO AMERICAS CLOISONNE DIAL BY MARGUERITE KOCH Rolex, "Oyster Perpetual", case No. 841835, Ref. 6284. Made in only six examples circa 1950. Exceptionally rare and fine, self-winding, water-resistant, 18K yellow gold wristwatch with cloisonné enamel map of the two Americas. Property of the Family of the Original Owner Two-body, solid, polished and brushed, screwed-down case back and crown, polished inclined bezel, concave lugs. By Stern Frères, cloisonné enamel on gold with counter enamel, No. 103*626, by Marguerite Koch, representing a map of the Two Americas on a black background, with applied faceted yellow gold indexes, outer minute/seconds dot divisions on the brushed outer ring. Yellow gold alpha hands. Notes A similar watch is illustrated on page 40 and 41 of "100 Superlative Rolex Watches" by John Goldberger. The cloisonné map of the Americas dial is particularly striking against a black background, the gold wirework or cloisons are very fi nely executed by the artist. Marguerite Koch An enameler specializing in the cloisonné technique, she was one of Stern Frères' favorite artists. She also made caravelle and coatof- arms dials for Rolex and Vacheron Constantin, as well as the famous exotic Gauguin dials for Patek Philippe. She worked for Stern from the late 40’s to the 1960’s.
