Very fine and very rare, self-winding, water-resistant, center seconds, 18K yellow gold wristwatch with cloisonné polychrome enamel dial depicting the Santa Caterina with an 18K yellow gold Ulysse Nardin buckle. Accompanied by a fitted box and an extract from the Archives and user manual. Three-body, solid, polished, rounded bezel, stepped lugs, case back secured by 4 screws and embossed with logo, sapphire crystal. Satiné gold with applied yellow gold baton indexes and Roman numerals, the center with a polychrome cloisonné enamel scene of the Santa Caterina. Yellow gold feuille hands. Cal. UN-13, gilt brass, fausses cotes and oeil-de-perdrix decoration, 21 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber, self-compensating flat balance spring, micrometer regulator, hack mechanism. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 37 mm. Thickness 9 mm. Notes The Santa Catharina, a Portuguese merchant ship, was seized by the Dutch East India Company in February, 1603, while traveling from Macau to Melaka. The sale of its extremely valuable cargo doubled the Company's capital. This incident marked the start of the Dutch–Portuguese War that was to put an end to the Portuguese trade monopoly in the East Indies.
