Jaeger Lecoultre, Swiss, Ref. 315. Made circa 1960. A fine and rare brass and Lucite 8 day going desk clock representing goldfish. To be sold without reserve Rectangular, made of two Lucite panels (one white and one blue) held by a brass surround, mounted on a stepped brass base representing two goldfish among aquatic vegetation. Indexes represented by air bubbles and star fish. Brass fancy hands. Baguette, skeletonized, train running in straight line in small two bar frame, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance with self-compensating Breguet balance spring. Signed on dial and numbered on case. Dim. 23 x 16 x 5.3 cm. Notes During the Tang dynasty, the Chinese began to breed carp with a genetic mutation, producing fish of a golden color. Goldfish came to represent wealth and good fortune in Chinese culture, and a gift of goldfish represents a blessing and the hope of future good luck.
