English, 19th century. A satinwood hinged lid sewing or jewelry box with inlaid detail on lid of a shell within an oval cartouche surrounded by bands of ebony stringing, chamfered corners decorated with inlaid medallions, inlaid chevron bordering on lid and around base, and applied gilt bronze lion's head ring handles on either side. Hinged lid on top opens to reveal a single large compartment lined in red, and double pull drawer on front is filled with many compartments of varying sizes. Box sits on four gilt ball feet and front of box exhibits a diamond shaped ivory keyhole lock. Approximately 6.25" tall x 12" wide x 8.5" deep.
