PENDULE MYSTERIEUSE 'ZODIAC' Swiss. Made circa 1960. Fine and very unusual, 8-day going, gilt-brass mystery clock. Oval polished gilt-brass base with two upright rings supporting the clock, pivoted arm in the center with cylindrical drums, one containing the movement, the other for the hour pointer, ball feet. Brushed gilt chapter ring with half and quarter-hour divisions, applied patinated zodiac symbols for the hour markers. Hour pointer on one end of the pivoted arm. Nickel, half-plate, 15 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, self-compensating flat balance spring, index regulator, the reverse with a semi-circular WEIGHT with hour-setting disc visible through a glazed aperture in the case. Notes DIM. 23.5 x 21.5 x 15.5 cm. This unusual clock is powered by an ingenious system whereby a weighted rotor on the back of the movement in the larger end of the rotating arm turns gradually as the hours pass, the slight change in position of the weight causes the arm to rotate.
