LE NOIR – LOUIS XV MANTEL CLOCK Le Noir a Lyon. Made circa 1760. Fine and rare, small, Louis XV, gilt bronze, hour and half-hour striking, 8-day going mantel clock. Gilt bronze, drum housing for the clock movement fl anked by the fi gure of a standing boy holding a pointer to a banner engraved with religious symbols, the base with a folding stool supporting a box, three conical mounts supporting cannon balls and a crouching dog at the side, ebonised wood base with foliate gilt bronze mounts, engine-turned feet. Convex white enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and large Arabic fi ve-minute numerals. Gilt brass Louis XV hands. 8 cm, circular gilt brass with fl at-bottomed plates, spring barrels for the going and striking trains, anchor escapement with silk suspension for the brass bob pendulum, outside countwheel for striking on a bell. Dial and movement signed. Dim. 23 x 15.5 x 9.5 cm.
