WATCH WITH CONCEALED EROTIC SCENE Attributed to Girardier l'Aîné, Paris. Made circa 1810. Fine and very unusual silver pocket watch with a concealed painted on enamel erotic scene. Three-body, "Empire", foliate engraved bezel, faceted band, the back engraved with a lakeside scene within a foliate engraved border. Small eccentric enamel with Breguet numerals, gilt brass dial plate chased with foliate decoration, Cupid and a tazza of grapes on oval small silver panels on each side of the dial and above a circular silver panel chased with a scene of cupid and a dog by an urn on a pedestal, opening via a pin in the dial plate to disclose a painted on enamel scene depicting a maiden being accosted by a gentleman brandishing a sword. Blued steel Breguet hands. 46 mm., hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, fl at balance spring, gilt brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece. Diam. 55 mm. Notes This watch can be attributed to Girardier l’Aîné by comparison to an almost identical signed watch sold by Antiquorum, Geneva, March 27, 2011, lot 170.
