BREGUET AU CAPITAINE ALTING Breguet, “Compteur à Pointage – Nouveau Modèle”, No. 626, sold to Capitaine Alting on May 31st, 1876 for 550 Francs. Very fine and rare, brass desk clock with 100th of a second foudroyante, seconds and stop feature. Drum-form, brushed and lacquered, screw-down reeded bezel, the back with apertures for winding and regulation, spherical feet, pendant and bow, pin for halting the escapement in the base. White enamel with small meantime dial with Breguet numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary dials below for the seconds and 100th of a second foudroyante. Blued steel Breguet hands. 64 mm, brass with spotted plates, going barrel, cylinder escapement with an additional large fi ve-spoke wheel mounted on the extended escape wheel pinion driving the foudroyante directly, seconds driven by the fourth wheel, three-arm brass balance, fl at balance spring, index regulator. Dial and case signed and numbered, movement numbered. Diam. 78 mm. Notes The present “Compteur à Pointage” is unusual in not being an inking chronograph which is more common. This model can also be used as a desk clock as opposed to simply a stopwatch making it a useful and elegant timepiece.
