GRANDE SONNERIE CLOCKWATCH WITH TRIP QUARTER-REPEATING Swiss. Made circa 1890. Fine and very rare, two-train, Grande Sonnerie striking and trip quarter-repeating, keyless pocket watch. To be sold without reserve Three-body, gilt-brass, "bassine", polished, glazed on both sides, slides on the band for silence/sonnerie. White enamel, with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track with Arabic fi ve-minute numerals, subsidiary seconds. Gold spade hands. Notes Lot 433: Grande Sonnerie clockwatches with quarter-repeating are very unusual, most being minuterepeating. This very high quality watch movement would have been destined for a much grander watch case than the one in which it is presently housed. It is possible that due to its unusual nature it was never sold and never left the Swiss manufacturer as a complete watch but simply put in what might be termed a “working case“.
