ANGELUS - ART DECO TABLE CLOCK WITH EXCEPTIONAL ENAMEL DIAL “L’INSPIRATION DU POETE” AFTER NICOLAS POUSSIN Angelus, Geneve, “L’Inspiration du Poete Apres Nicolas Poussin”, No. 58513. Possibly made for exhibition, circa 1925. Fine, large, Art Deco, silver-gilt and marble, 8-day going table clock with sonnerie striking and exceptional painted on enamel dial. C. Circular, silver-gilt, beaded edge, fluted tapering base upon a step-moulded veined black marble rectangular base, the back engraved “L’Inspiration du Poete Apres Nicolas Poussin D. Annular chapter ring painted with clouds, radial Roman numerals, the center with an extremely finely painted on enamel panel after Poussin’s “Inspiration of the Poet”. Gilt star and sun hour and minute hands. M. Rhodium plated, fausses cotes decoration, 15 jewels, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Case and movement signed. Dim. 15 x 23 cm. Notes This clock is highly unusual in the output of Angelus although the company made a handful of clocks with very fine decoration. The enamel panel mounted in the center of the dial is exceptionally well painted, this combined with the case in the early Art Deco style suggest that it was perhaps made for exhibition.
