Chinese, circa 1879 - 1890. Chinese lacquered and gilt painted oak Scholars' cabinet, etagere or display cabinet, the upper part having carved open fretwork with scrolls over scattered four short drawers and four panel doors, some panels parcel gilt carved in relief with figures and architecture, others with scrolling foliage, all with red lacquered background. On stile feet with corner scrolled brackets. Height 64.8", width 39.5", depth 14.5".
