Japanese, 19th century. A pair of porcelain lidded ginger jars with finely composed hand painted opposing decoration of chrysanthemum flowering branches growing off a craggy rock, a purple and grey bird perched atop the stone, the branches extending artfully to the opposite side of jar body, with a band of green, yellow, and purple linear patterning to base, a band to shoulder with flowers and vines around medallions depicting precious objects, and geometric bands to neck of vase and lip of lid, with floral decoration and butterflies to lid. Jars to stained wood four footed pedestals. Unmarked. Overall approximately 15" tall x 9" diameter.
