English,19th century. Ladies mahogany and satinwood inlaid letter or writing box of rectangular form with top of hinged lid decorated with oval paterae at the center, quarter-fan corners that opens to reveal compartmental storage within including on fitted green leather holder panel (marked Rd. 173369) on underside of lid for writing utensils such as pen and pencil (box accompanied with ivory paper cutter or letter opener in middle loop). Interior well appointed with original inkwell, green leather journal or book (pages loose within), rectangular pencil and notes porcelain tablet, four stationary compartments, two small pull out drawers on right side of case. Box with drop front that further expands showing green hand tooled leather writing desk. Brass drop handles on sides on decorated storage box. Approximate height 8", width 13.25", depth 7". Provenance: Trademarc, Crown Arcade, 119 Portobello Road, London, England whereby acquired by Private Collector in Atlanta, Georgia in 2000.
