LE ROY - LOUIS XVI "PENDULE OBELISQUE" Le Roy à Paris. Made circa 1775. Very fine and rare, Louis XVI, white marble and gilt-bronze obelisk-form, 8-day going, hour and half-hour striking mantel clock. White marble, obelisk-shaped, the bezel with beaded decoration, above the clock an inset gilt-bronze panel depicting two graces uplifting the globe on which Cupid stands holding a flaming torch and bow, below the clock a gilt-bronze swag supported by two opposing sphinxes, the sides top and base with gilt-bronze beaded outlining, armillary sphere finial, the gilt-bronze base with four turned feet. White enamel with upright Roman numerals, outer dot minute indexes. Pierced gilt-brass Louis XVI hands. 90 mm. gilt-brass flat-bottomed circular plates, going barrels for both trains, anchor escapement with silk suspension, outside countwheel striking on a bell. Notes Dial signed. DIM. 57 x 17.5 x 13 cm. A fine Louis XVI period clock and a very attractive model. Avery similar clock is in the collection of the Louvre Museum, Paris, and illustrated in: "La Pendule Française", Tardy, Vol. II, P. 128.
