Windmills, Wightman London, No. 9300, circa 1710. Fine 22K gold pair cased, quarter repeating watch. Outer double body gilt brass, polished, bezel and border, pierced with formal decoration. Inner double body, bassine, the band pierced and engraved with a mask and inhabited foliage, the back centred with a rosette. Later custom made white enamel with Roman numerals and outer minute ring. Blued steel "poker and beetle" hands. Hinged gilt brass full plate with turned pillars, fusee with chain, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass cock pierced and engraved with a mask, diamond endstone. Repeating on a bell by depressing the pendant. Gilt brass dust cap. Signed on the back plate and dust cap. Diam. 52 mm. Notes During the second half of the 18th Century, several watches had their silver or gold champleve dials, replaced by enamel dials, at the request of their owners. The enamel dials being clearer to read in weak light.
