Pavel Buhre (Paul Buhre), No. 135749, Swiss, made for the Russian Market, circa 1890. Fine silver and enamel hunting cased, keyless presentation watch. Four body, massive, "bassine et filets " , engineturned, the cover with the black champleve enamelled Russian crowned double headed eagle. Hinged silver cuvette. White enamel with Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute ring and sunk subsidiary seconds. Blued steel "spade " hands. Notes The Fast/Slow indication on the regulator index are written in Cyrillic. Watches decorated with the Imperial Eagle, were usually bought by the Tsars to be presented to servants, soldiers, visitors or i mportant personalities, in recognition of loyalty to the Empire. Therefore a wide range of watches by Paul Buhre, from inexpensive silver cased plain watches, to pocket chronometers, were bought for this purpose. Silver hunting cased watches were usually presented to servants.
