Coliau à Paris, No. 984, circa 1770.Very fine 20K gold and enamel watch with protecting case. Double body, Louis XV with polished bezel, the enamel back painted with a very fine scene, depicting Venus and Adonis, assisted by Cupid, the enamel backing, inside the case, painted en grisaille with a beggar. Glased outer protecting cased, polished. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Gold Louis XV hands. Hinged gilt brass full plate with conical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring. Gilt brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece.Signed on the dial and back plate.Diam. 54 mm. Notes Coliau is recorded by Tardy as Master in 1770, working in Paris, rue du Mail from 1772 to 1778, and rue Neuve des Petits Champs from 1783 to 1787.
