Fritz Piguet & Bachmann, Genève, No. 7416,made in 1886.Very fine, 18K pink gold, hunting cased, keyless pocket lever chronometer, awarded the first prize at the contest organised at the Observatory of Geneva in 1886. In the original mahogany fitted box. Four body, massive, "bassine et filets", polished, the cover engraved with a monogram, the back with a coat-of-arms. Hinged gold cuvette engraved with technical details and the awarded prize. White enamel with Roman numerals and sunk subsidiary seconds. Blued steel "spade" hands. Notes Timing Contest :- Mean average daily rate +/- 0,18- Restart period + 0,74- Error of compensation per degree C +/- 0,049- Mean error in 6 positions +/- 0,006With 243,4 marks, this chronometer was 1st out of 46 classified with more than 200 marks. The first, this one, one with 243,4 and the last one with 160,7; the maximum being 300 marks.Piguet Fritz & BachmannFamous watchmakers and timers at the turn of the 19th and20th centuries. They created high precision and highly complicated watches. They were awarded, in 1885, a third prize at the concours de chronomètrie de Genève, the first prize in 1886 and the third prize in 1887.They signed an astronomical watch with perpetual calendar, set with a Patek Philippe fitted box, made for the King of Romania.
