Family Scene Probably Piguet & Meylan, Geneva, No. 4346, made for the Chinese market, circa 1826. Very fine and rare 18K gold and painted on enamel, pearl-set, 8-day going quarter-repeating watch. Four-body, “Empire”, back cover finely painted with a scene depicting a mother playing with her children, ruins in the background, band set with pearls in a chevron pattern alternating with black champlevé enamel, bezels set with two rows of large and smaller calibrated half pearls, pearl-set pendant and bow, gold hinged cuvette finely engraved with flowers, fruits, and a quiver of love arrows. White enamel, Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel “Serpent” hands. 45 mm, gilt brass, bridge caliber, large barrel to last for eight days, usual four-wheel train, cylinder escapement three-arm plain brass balance, flat balance spring, repeating on gongs by depressing the pendant.
