German, circa 1620, the later movement by Jans. Fine and rare gilt bronze monstrance table clock, with astrolabic back and horizontal sundial built-in the removable base. Designed as a monstrance supported by a caryatid, the octagonal watch with hinged astrolabic back is surmounted by a mythological figure. The removable base engraved on the reverse with the names of different cities in the latitudes between 41 to 50 degrees, is standing on three dolphin feet. It is fitted inside with a brass hexagonal horizontal sundial with compass and folding gnomon. Gilt bronze with Roman hour numerals from I to XII and inner Arabic numerals from 13 to Z4 in the Germanashion, the centre decorated with scrolling foliage. Later blued steel hands. Custom made gilt brass full plate with turned pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass English style cock with polished steel end-piece.Dim. 18 cm high
