Swiss, circa 1825. Very fine 18K gold and enamel musical snuffbox with built-in watch. Double body rectangular with rounded faces with hinged lid, engine-turned in a basketwork pattern, enhanced by two borders of black champlevé enamelled flowers and foliage over a matt ground, the watch at one end, the music at the other; hinged lid over the watch, the music winding hole protected by a shutter. White enamel chapter ring with Breguet numerals. Blued steel Breguet hands. Gold engine-turned dial plate with white enamel small sector for fast/slow regulation. Gilt brass ovalith going barrel, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring.Musical movement: brass oval full plate with cylindrical pillars, pinned drum train with two sets of 18 stacked tuned teeth.Dim. 85 x 47 mm. Notes More compact, the pinned drum musical trains were namely used for form watches and small objects of vertu, such as seals and small gold and enamel musical instruments. They are usually fitted with one or two sets of five to seven stacked tuned teeth. This musical movement with two sets of 18 stacked tuned teeth is exceptional.
