Dunhill, movement No. 104275, case No. 5245 by Tavannes, circa 1940.Fine and rare sterling silver and black lacquer, painted in Japanese style 'La Captive' purse watch. Rectangular with two panels that flip open by pressing the spring-loaded sides of the case to display the movement and the dial, which can be tilted and held by the panels, making it a desk clock. The entire case is covered with black lacquer and painted in Chinese style showing a plant near a stream. Matted silver with applied gold Arabic numerals. Gold Breguet hands. Notes To our knowledge this is the first 'La Captive' design with Chinese painting to be offered at auction.
