Northern European, circa 1580. Fine and extremely rare small gilt bronze table clock within its original morocco fitted box. Square, fire-gilded, each side engraved with three arches alternating with clepsydras, two corner arches pierced for sound. Square fire-gilded bottom with engraved four circles and square. Box: Fine, square fitted, borders decorated with pressed and gilded pattern, the cover with hinged brass lid decorated with circles matching the bottom to open to see the dial. Fire-gilded chapter ring with Roman numerals and touch pieces, sunk center decorated with a rosette and with a chapter ring calirated from 13 to 24 hours, inner revolving alarm setting disk with a pointer forming a single hand. Square, fire-gilded brass with column pillars, fusee with gut-line, short 3-wheel train, verge escapement with dumb-bell foliot, hog bristle regulator, large gilded irregular cock, pierced and engraved with strawberry flowers and foliage, secured by a screw, alarm driven by a fixed barrel and 3-wheel train striking on a bell between the plates.Dim. 84x84x41 mm.
