Charles Frodsham, 84 Strand, London, No. 03613, AD Fmsz, personal watch of Ferguson Cole, hallmarked 1866-67.Very fine and rare 18K gold double-train Grande et Petite Sonnerie Clockwatch with quarter-repeating. Off-white enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute ring, subsidiary sunk seconds. Blued steel "spade" hands. Notes An excellent example of Swiss-English cooperation. The very high-quality movement was made in Switzerland, finished, cased and furnished with its dial in England. The cuvette has an interesting inscription "This Clock Watch Examined, Sprung & Adjusted by Ferguson Cole AD 1868 was accidentally met with twenty years later in Condition unimpaired & purchased for his own use AD. 1888".Both Ferguson Cole and Charles Frodsham were among the most eminent British horologists of the Victorian era. The fact that Cole chose the watch for his personal use says a great deal about the quality of the piece.
