The Loving FamilyAdamson, Paris, No. 1006, circa 1790.Very fine and elegant 18K rose gold, pain-ted on enamel, diamond-set watch, quarter-repeating on a bell. 39 mm., gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, fat balance spring, continental cock pierced and engraved with letters M.A.J.J.C.E.Y., repeating on bell by depressing the pendant.Signed on dial and movement.Diam. 54 mm. Notes Enameled watches with bell repeaters are rare. Gustave Adolphe Adamson was the son of Godfried, a Swedish watchmaker. He came to Paris in 1771, at the age of 26 and first worked at Place Dauphine. In 1791 he was watchmaker to the Royal Family and moved to Cour des Moines near the Abbaye Saint Germain. In 1800 he moved again to rue Saint Honoré and in 1813 to Cloître Saint Benoît. From 1771 to 1775, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge Saint Louis de la Martinique et des Frères Réunis. Along withhis compatriot André Hessen, he specialized in slim watches, sometimes with characteristic fully closed dust-protected movements.
