Probably Austrian or German, circa 1870, movement by John Lampe, London, No. 1038, circa 1730.Fine and interesting gilt silver desk clock with date. In the Renaissance style, above two knights in combat, one on horseback, the other has fallen from his horse, and has lost his shield, the front with four applied busts, two exotic figures on the corners, two cherubs embracing at the bottom, the entire base engraved with scrolling, lattice and floral pattern, molded base, hinged cover in the back for winding, all figures hollow. 40 mm., hinged, gilt brass full-plate with Egyptian pillars with silver tops, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, single-footed silver cockSigned on the movement.Dim. Height 15 cm., base width 10 cm. Notes During the nineteenth century, the Austrians specialized in the making of fine objects in the Renaissance style, often employing old movements.
