James Terrier, London, circa 1710. Fine silver and tortoiseshell pair-cased watch. Outer: two-body, tortoiseshell covered, elaborately engraved British coat-of-arms on the back, silver pins. Inner: two-body, "bassine", polished. Silver, champlevé radial Roman numerals, outer minute ring with five-minute Arabic markers on polished oval cartouches. Blued steel "beetle and poker" hands. 40 mm, gilt full-plate with tulip pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain steel balance with flat balance spring, single-footed cock with streamers and angled foot.Signed on dial and movement.Diam. 55 mm. Notes Aside from being a fine watch, the case comes with an unusual watch paper which depicts the map of London. James Terrier is recorded as a member of the Clockmakers' Company from 1694 - 1706.
