Produced circa 1992.Very fine and unusual self-winding 18K yellow gold epicycloidal gentleman's wristwatch with an 18K yellow gold Audemars Piguet buckle. three-body, solid, polished and brushed, transparent back, stepped bezel, sapphire crystal. white and guilloché gold, the hour graduation on three translucent sapphire discs, each with four painted black hour indicators, on the top, white sector indicating the 60 minutes in painted Arabic numerals and indexes, at the center, a rhodium-plated wheel with three arms, each ended by a self-rotating screw, activating the discs. Cal. 2124, rhodium-plated, "fausses-côtes" decoration, 33 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted for heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, shock-absorber, self-compensating flat balance-spring, 21K gold rotor segment. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 36 mm. Notes Audemars Piguet's "Star Wheel" watch is reminiscent of the 17th century "wandering hours" dial, with hours indicated within an aperture. The epicycloidal system was first employed by the Campani brothers of Rome, who used it in their nocturnal clocks during the second half of the 17th century.
