Unsigned, Germany, circa 1640. Fine and rare gilt bronze hour-striking crucifix table clock. Round base engraved with scrolls and foliage with two urn finials, pierced for sound housing a bell, two gilt bronze figures of St. Mary and St. John at the foot of the Cross with an applied eagle above the Christ, terminated by a rotating sphere indicating the time. Copper strap applied to the rotating sphere, Roman numerals, half-hour divisions. Set in the base of the cross, 58 mm, gilt brass plates, turned baluster pillars, stackfreed, brass wheels, two-arm foliot.Dim. Height 29 cm, diam. of base 15 cm.
